The World Song Contest is back in April 2005 for a second edition. From the 17 countries that took part in WSC .01, only Bosnia & Herzegovina and Denmark missed the Contest. But new countries joined in and a total of 24 participants was finally reached. After the United States of America, the WSC goes Down Under with the first participation of Australia. Asia is not far away as Turkey also joined. The World Song Contest is inspired by the Eurovision Song Contest. This is thus logical that some of the artists are related to it. In the first edition of the WSC, Olivia Lewis, who represented Malta, and Judy, for Hungary, came second in their national selection for the ESC with the same songs. Sweden's Jill Johnson, Bosnian Dino Merlin and Tose Proeski for F.Y.R. of Macedonia took part at the ESC respectively in 1998, 1999 and 2004. Things didn't change in the second edition of the contest with the participation of Helena Paparizou, who represented Greece in 2001 and 2005, Magazin, who took part in 1995 for Croatia and finished 2nd with Nazaret at this year's national final, Marlain, member of Hi-5, represented Cyprus in 1999 and last but not least Carola, for Sweden, won the ESC in 1991. And believe me, that's only a beginning. Another things wich is similar to the ESC is how the countries vote... Serbia & Montenegro, Croatia, F.Y.R. of Macedonia and Bosnia & Herzegovina appear to be good friends. But that can be explained by the fact that the artists (and song) are famous in the whole Balkans. But as 24 people sent their votes for this edition, the final results wasn't really affected by that. In fact, the race for victory only concerned two countries: The Netherlands and Greece which finally came 1st and 2nd with a difference of 5 points in favour of The Netherlands, with the song "Automatic", sung by EliZe. >> The Top in Video 1. The Netherlands 2. Greece 5. United States of America 7. Poland 13. Spain | THE WINNER Country: The Netherlands
EliZe (artist name of Elise van der Horst, born July 22, 1982 in Utrecht) is a Dutch singer-songwriter. Growing up in Bussum, EliZe shared her mother's passion for singing. As an eight year old she was selected to sing in a children's television show, "Kinderen voor Kinderen" ("Children for Children"), in which she performed for six years. After Kinderen voor Kinderen, she joined 'Non Stop', a teenage choir, and participated in two amateur productions of the musicals Chicago and Les Misérables. For the last couple of years, she has been active as a background singer in a song contest for children, and has completed a training college program for executive secretaries. In 2004, EliZe recorded an album in Denmark. The first single, "Shake", was released in 2004 in the Netherlands. It was a modest hit by peaking at number 32 on the Dutch Top 40. "Automatic (I'm Talking to You)", the second single, was released in 2005 in the Netherlands. The song became her signature song, peaking at number 7 there and becoming her best-selling single to date. It is also the first song that has ever charted outside the Netherlands, charting in Finland and Belgium amongst others in the top 20. Following the success of her singles, she released her long awaited debut album In Control on September 29, 2006. The album peaked at number 66 in the Dutch Mega Album Top 100. In May 2008, she released the first single of her forthcoming album, "Lovesick." Her second album More Than Meets the Eye was released on June 26, 2009 in the Netherlands.
