57 songs took part in the 39th edition of the World Song Contest, which started in May 2008. And of course, semi finals were first organized to keep only 35 entries in the final. Some people gave each other mutual support in the semi finals, but if it helped to qualified, it didn't helped in the final. And worst: it probably prevented some great songs to qualify, and maybe these songs would have reach a higher position in the final. Once again ESC-related artists received a lof of support like Dmitry Koldun for Belarus, Anjeza Shahini for Albania or Carolin Fortenbacher for Germany. but of course they couldn't compete with the song their famous for among the Eurovision fan community. If ESC songs, as well as those which took part in a national final, can't take part in the World Song Contest, there was no rules lile that for the San Remo festival. As a results, you often have entries for Italy, San Marino or Vatican City which were songs performed during that festival. In this edition San Marino and Vatican City were both represented by one of those songs. If both did reach its best results. Indeed there was no doubt since the voting started that the tiny country could win this edition. And it did ! With 208 votes, and a lot of support from Brazilian players of WSC, San Marino took a comfortable win against Argentina (2nd) and China (3rd). Originality was probably beaten with Estonia finishing 5th, but that was a long time since Estonia didn't reach a final, in fact Estonia failed to qualify in 11 occasions in a row, from WSC .28 to WSC .38. The winning song, Il Nostro Tiempo performed by La Scelta, is in some ways closed to the previous Italian winner in WSC .18, "Stop! Dimentica" by Tizianno Ferro.
