The Story Goes On...

THE WINNER

Country: Greenland
Artist(s): Julie
Song: Moments Bliss

Julie Ivalo Broberg Berthelsen (born June 7, 1979 in Aarhus, Denmark) is a Danish (Greenlandic) singer and songwriter. She is known largely for her success on the TV series Popstars. Although she finished in second place, she has become more popular and successful than the first place winner. She grew up in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. Julie started her carreer in 2002 in Denmark, when she came in second in the tv-reality show Popstars. At the time she was living in Aarhus, where she moved to from her mother-land Greenland, studying to become a doctor at the university. Singing had been her hobby and her dream from when she was very little, and she saw this as an opportunity to see how far she could get with it. In other words,- give the singing a chance. It turned out to be just excactly what she should have done a long time a go. But everything in it..s time, as Julie says. She released her debut-album "HOME" in 2003 and has since then released "JULIE" , "ASASARA" (greenlandic word for "my love") and is currently working on her fourth album to be released in september this year of 2008. This time in her first/second language danish. Besides the singing Julie is very much into making changes in communities and countries contributing with her name, face, person and work. She encourages people to take a look at the homepages of "Save The Children" whom she often works for and sits as an ambassador for, Nanu the greenalndic organisation working for better lives for the children of her home-country and last but not least www.navia.is - a miracle working organisation.

Lyrics

I'm standing in the dark
feels like the walls are closing in
I don't know where to go
since i've forgotten where i've been

still it hurts inside
I gotta tell you
wanna let you know
I can't live a lie
gotta get this of my chest

I never meant to tear your world apart
I never meant to break another heart
I've traded a moment's bliss
for the price of our happiness
I didn't wanna mess things up again
I never meant to cheat and hurt a friend
I've traded a moment's bliss
for the price of our happiness

I'm standing all alone
I watch you move
I hear you laugh
I can't escape my faith
it catches up, it hunts me down

still it hurts inside
I gotta tell you
wanna let you know
I can't live a lie
gotta get this of my chest

I never meant to tear your world apart
I never meant to break another heart
I've traded a moment's bliss
for the price of our happiness
I didn't wanna mess things up again
I never meant to cheat and hurt a friend
I've traded a moment's bliss
for the price of our happiness

our happiness
for the price of our happiness
yeah
(bridge)
Ohhhhhhhhh....yeah yeah
I never meant to tear your world apart
I never meant to break another heart
I've traded a moment's bliss
for the price of our happiness
I didn't wanna mess things up again
I never meant to cheat and hurt a friend
I've traded a moment's bliss
for the price of our happiness
Hey yeah

break another heart
hey yeah
Hey hey hey yeah

YOUR COMMENTS

Once again, more than 70 participants (73) took part in the 43rd edition of the World Song Contest, with Saint Kitts & Nevis and Quebec being represented for the first time. The participation of Quebec raised a lot of questions as it is not an independent country, but it must be said that, inside Canada, Quebec has its own music scene, and that it deserved to be represented in the contest under some conditions: the entries can only be performed in French. The first entry from Quebec managed to qualify for the final, where it ended 13th with 105 points. A good start.

Greenland, which just like Quebec is not independent, came first in the final. Once again, votes from several Brazilian players made the difference as those who voted for Greenland usually didn't vote for the countries which ended in the top 5. But the question here is not about who voted for which song, but why do people choose songs they wouldn't vote for if it was chosen by someone else. Of course, players here try to give a general idea of the music from the country they represent, but what's the point of sending a song you don't necessarly like ? Winning the all thing with a song you think people will vote for, mainly Eurovision fans ? Indeed, Moments Bliss, performed by Julie Berthelsen, is a pure ESC pop song, and yes we have ESC pop song lovers here... But once again, we have the occasion to hear that kind of songs once a year in a contest which is called Eurovision... and once again, so many other online contest find they happiness in that kind of songs... But WSC has shown us, for severaly years, that the ambitions were higher. So when you read things said by players of WSC, like: "I don't think WSC has a style or needs one" well it just means some people here didn't get the point. WSC is probably the only online song contest where music which is different from what we can hear in other online contests can win. So maybe there's not a magic formula to win, but at least you can try your luck with any kind of music because there's always a chance... Well maybe we should say there WAS a chance because things seem to have changed. That's why I ask you to dare things, not thinking about victory. Just send the songs that you really like even if you think it won't do well, don't send them to please someone else. And when you vote, maybe you should try to open your mind and ears to other kind of music that the ones you usually like, you can have great surprise at the end. Don't forget, we can try to do something different, and it can only be done with your help !

So Greenland came first, not only the song took the advantage over Belgium, which came second and received support from other french speaking countries, but also over the United Kingdom, which were represented by one of the best band in the world, and so is their music: The Verve. Germany came 4th, followed by India which achieved its best result ever.
