THE WINNER Country: United Kingdom Charlie Winston is a British singer/songwriter associated with Peter Gabriel's label, Real World Records. He broke through to mainstream success in France in 2009 with the chart-topping smash hit "Like a Hobo." Born in 1978 in Cornwall, he grew up in Bungay, Suffolk, where his parents ran a hotel. He is the brother of Tom Baxter, a singer/songwriter popular in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Winston made his full-length debut with the self-produced album Make Way (2007) in association with Gabriel's Real World label. He toured with Gabriel as well. His second album, Hobo (2009), was also released on Real World. Whereas Make Way failed to find a mass audience, Hobo became a major commercial success in France, where it was released on the label Atmosphériques. The album's lead single, "Like a Hobo," topped the French singles chart. It also reached the Top Five in Belgium and the Top 30 in Switzerland. In support of the breakthrough success of "Like a Hobo," Winston toured France. Official website: http://www.charliewinston.com/ Lyrics I’ve always known YOUR COMMENTS
| Due to a problem of time in the organisation no semi finals were hold for the 49th edition of the World Song Contest. So the 58 countries which took part all had the chance to win the whole thing in what would become an exciting final. The results were known on the day after the Eurovision Song Contest saw Norway winning the 2009 edition thanks to Alexander Rybak. As you know it, Eurovision artists are more than frequent in WSC, and as the Grand Final approches, you see more and more of them. And then it's no surprise to see Alxander Rybak represented Norway in WSC too. But as he easily won the Eurovision Song Contest with Fairytail, he couldn't do better than a 6th position in WSC. F.Y.R. of Macedonia was also represented by their ESC representatives in 2009, but Next Time couldn't do better here just like they didn't managed to qualify for the final of ESC. Wtih 58 songs in the final, you could expect the points would go in all directions, and so they went. For the first time in 49 editions, a country ended last with no points, and only one point gave the victory to the winner. The United Kingdom captured their second victory in the contest with the song "Like a Hobo", performed by Charlie Winston ahead of Cuba and Belgium, in a top 10 which, apart of Israel, was made of European and American countries.
