World Song Contest

The 51st edition of the World Song Contest started with 57 countries after Namibia and Cyprus came back in the game. Namibia managed to qualify for the final while Cyprus was the best songs from those which didn't. The semi finals were also cruel for Eurovision artists as Karolina Goceva, Serebro and Inga & Anush were eliminated before the final. Only Swiss band Lovebugs qualified but if they won these semi finals, they were left out of the top 5 in the final.

For the records, we can point that New Zealand, winner of the previous edition, came last this time, while the battle between two former winners of the French Pop Idol was won by Christophe Willem.

Christophe Willem could also became the second singer with two victories in WSC as he already won for France in WSC .26. So far only Russian singer Varvara managed to do it. Unfortunately for France, Christophe Willem had to battle against a young band from Quebec, but representing Canada, The New Cities, who gave their country a third victory in WSC with the song Dead End, Countdown.

It was released in May 2009.
