The Story Goes On...

World Song Contest .57

 Number of participants: 51

New participants: Barbados

51 songs competed in the 57th edition of the World Song Contest. Among them, Barbados which took part for the very first time. Greece and Mexico were both disqualified after they didn't vote for the semi finals, while being directly qualified after their results in the previous edition. That's why the final welcomed 34 songs instead of 36. Among the big shocks from the semi finals is the elimination of the United States of America. The country was represented by noone else than Lady GaGa with one of her massive hit, "Bad Romance".

Emilie Simon made a come back in WSC, after a first participation for Monaco back in WSC .29, where she finished second, with "Fleur de Saison", a song which was seen as one of the best of that year in the contest. This time she managed to reach 4th place for France. She was not the only one to try her luck again in WSC, as Erik Hassle did better for Sweden with a fifth position after he already reached the top 10 in WSC .46, Laura Pausini came back for the 7th time. she already took part for Italy in WSC .06, WSC .07, WSC .08, WSC .10, WSC .20 and for San Marino in WSC .44. She reached the top 10 for the 4th time, this time in a duo with James Blunt.

Once again we had a very close race between the songs of the top 6. Only 12 points seperated the winner from the 6th position, among them, four European countries. But the victory was promised to Asia with the first ever win of Malaysia. Dato' Siti Nurhaliza won the contest with the song "Ku Percaya Ada Cinta", ahead of Poland and Germany.

THE WINNER

Country: Malaysia
Artist(s): Dato' Siti Nurhaliza
Song: Ku Percaya Ada Cinta

One of a select few Malaysian pop singers to have success outside of her native borders, Dato' Siti Nurhaliza (born January 11, 1979) began her performing career at a very young age, wowing audiences at weddings and parties at the age of five. In 1995, at the age of 16, Nurhaliza competed and won that year's Juara Bintang competition, which led to a record deal with Suria Records. In 1996, Nurhaliza released her first album, a self-titled affair. From there on out, her career was locked in an upward direction. She released more than ten albums over the next ten or so years, and appeared on a good number of compilations. Her hit album Hadiah Daripada Hati hit store shelves in December of 2007, and her fourteenth album, Tahajjud Cinta, in September 2009.
