The Story Begins...

  • The first edition of the World Song Contest started in March 2005.
  • From the 17 participants, 16 were European countries. Only United States of America prevented this first edition from being a "Europe Song Contest". Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, F.Y.R. of Macedonia, Malta, Poland, Serbia & Montenegro, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom were the European representatives.
  • First edition, first international stars with Gwen Stefani or Joss Stone, but also first Eurovision related artists such as Dino Merlin, Jill Johnson, Anna Vissi or Tose Proeski. At the time of this first edition, Gwen Stefani topped the charts in several countries with "What You Waiting For ?" but the song only achieved a 6th position in WSC. The first one to fail, but not the last.
  • Greece received the famous "12 points" from three juries. It was enough to take the victory.
